If you’ve been lucky to meet or work Jude Sclater you’ll know how great she is at asking the right kind of questions to spark thought and conversation. She’s been a mentor in our mentoring groups for the past four years and many of us have been lucky enough to work with her.

Just over a year ago, after being made redundant, she decided to go it alone – a scary prospect but one she says is about going with what makes you happy and gives you time to think. It’s quite fitting that her coaching is called Think with Jude.

We recently caught up with her ahead of her next mentoring group Career Accelerator, which is starts in March. It’s open to any NZBWN members looking to push their career forward in the next six months.

In this month's Kiwi Hacks we continue our guest series with the Network's own Jude Sclater, an expert in leadership and team development. Following on from Jude's first article which looked at how you can position yourself for a promotion at work, this month Jude helps you navigate the ever tricky work/life balance.

Jude Sclater's top tips for how to achieve a healthy work/life balance

Early in my career a good friend that I worked with gave me this advice: ‘when you look back over your life, you’re not going to wish you’d spent more time at work!’

I think this holds true for many areas of our life. Take a moment to think about lying on your deathbed at 90, looking at the people around you, grateful for the experiences you’ve had with no regrets.

This month’s hacks are all about the things you need to do to lead you to that moment.

A huge congratulations to one of our valued members and Kea New Zealand’s UK and Europe Regional Director, Tania Bearsley, who was awarded UK New Zealander of the Year.  

The award, presented by the New Zealand Society of the United Kingdom at the recent Waitangi Day Ball in London, celebrates Kiwis living and working in the UK who are doing great things for the NZ community.

Bronwen Horton, New Zealand Business Women's Network Founder, said: "We are absolutely over the moon that Tania has won this prestigious award. It's recognition of her contribution to the NZ community over the last 10 years, not only in her current role, but in everything she has done. Tania is an active member and avid supporter and ambassador of NZBWN, taking every opportunity to introduce new women and businesses to our network."

In 2019, Tania was instrumental in organising the Stand for Solidarity with New Zealand event at Trafalgar Square, bringing together the Kiwi community following the Christchurch Mosque attacks.

But her honour roll is a lot longer than that. She has given endless time and energy to our network as  a volunteer, as well as the New Zealand Society (UK) and of course Kea New Zealand.
