Reconnecting with New Zealand

Written by Bronwen Horton.

Bron at VillaLast month I went back to New Zealand to visit family and friends along with trying to soak up some of NZ’s late summer sun as many of us do at this time of the year. What was different about this trip was I’d been asked to speak at my old high school and two opportunities to catch-up with NZBWN members who had returned to NZ and now living in either Wellington or Auckland.

It ended up that I spoke twice at my old high school, Villa Maria College, Christchurch. The first engagement included speaking along with the Chief Economist from ASB to 80 past pupils. I shared with this group some of my experiences attending Villa and my journey to the UK. I also shared a little about what has kept me in the UK and how I set-up the New Zealand Business Women’s Network and the importance of building relationships.

Our Stories: Karen Musson

Written by Eleanor McIntosh.

Karen MussonKaren Musson shakes her head and laughs as she recalls her university studies, "We used to have to compile code and then book in a machine to run this separately, whereas we can process this within seconds now...can you believe it!". Karen was one of the first to study Computing at Massey University in the 80's, at a time when Apple Macs were just starting to be used in labs and many concepts such as data structures/fields were still abstract and difficult to understand. However, she admits her spreadsheet skills and knowledge of formulas have stood her in good stead to this current day.

Our Stories: Teresa Mitrovic

Written by Sophie Bevin.

teresa ourstoriesTeresa’s passion for balancing high performance with quality of life was the inspiration behind launching her business, TM&Co Ltd. Through TM&Co, Teresa has coached individuals and teams within SMEs and high profile organisations.

In 2015, Teresa partnered with us to share some of that passion with NZBWN’s ‘Clarity Around Your Career Change’ mentoring group. She enjoyed working with fellow Kiwis; women she could connect with in a special way through a shared background. The opportunity to give back and to work with women who were committed to making the very best of the experience, is why she encourages other Mentors to take the plunge. “The diversity of background and the breadth of talent in our mentee group was incredible! It was a joy to be part of and is an experience I will always treasure”.
